October 2008 - Message from Ken & Monica...

"Hi guys, This is Monica with the newest additions to our animal family ... two new-born lambs that we rescued from the land near ours after their mother gave birth to them this morning and abandoned them, while the herd was grazing. We are really blessed to have these two ladies in our family and they struggled to their feet (hooves?) this evening and took their first clumsy but cute steps! We won´t get much sleep for the next few weeks as we have to feed them from a bottle every few hours but we don´t care .. we love them! Just wanted to share this special event with special people! With much love, Ken & Monica "
September 2008 - Message from Ken & Monica...
¨ Hi everyone, Now that the paypal donation page is in English. We are receiving donations from many of you and I can´t tell you how thankful we are for this! We have sold a couple of items too and all of this helps with the cost of keeping the animals. The new kittens are doing very well and growing fast! Next week Salvador (the vet) will begin ¨fixing¨ them which is important, even if it´s a little bit sad. And soon we will have two pigs, two goats and two horses!! But first we will use some of the money we have received to build the stables, the shelters and the fencing that will be necessary to give them their free space. God is blessing me with lots of work and the health and strength to do it, even a couple of solo shows and that money goes straight into Esperanza Street. So we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and so do the animals!! With love, God bless, Ken & Monica "
June 2008 - A story from Ken & Monica...
¨About six weeks ago we received a desperate call from a friend who had heard a strange noise coming from the rubbish dump and found 5 kittens in a box that had been dumped there to die. She had taken them to a local pet shop but they refused to take them in so Monica told her to bring them straight here to the house and then called Salvador, our trusty vet. They were 1 week old, their eyes were still closed and they were starving! So the plan was formed, the kitten milk formula was delivered, the bed was prepared, the heater turned on and Monica and I (mainly Monica) had to be ¨parents¨ every 4 hours, day and night, feeding the kittens from a bottle and encouraging them to pee and poo, using our laps as a toilet! Gradually they gathered strength although we did have to make one emergency run to the vet when one of them got quite sick. But now they are approaching 8 weeks and doing really well. We could find homes for them but, as you can imagine, we are all very attached now so ..... watch this space for updates. It is not possible to save all the abandoned animals but it sure is rewarding when you can give life to just a few. Please keep your support coming and we´ll do our best for you and for them¨
God bless, Ken & Monica

March 2008 - Special "Blood On The Highway" Auction

STOP PRESS.........Number 0001 of the Blood On The Highway boxed set is available to the highest bidder here at Esperanza Street!!! It´s unique, still in the original packaging and has to be a very high-value collectors item! Just write your bid in an e-mail to esperanzastreet@yahoo.com and we will post the highest bid in the news section on Friday of each week until the auction ends on April 30th. The money raised from this will go to our efforts to buy the land we have been offered so that we can build the shelter homes and all of the other things detailed in our fund-raising news item. We have been guaranteed the full co-operation of the local authorities so all we need now is your help and kindness to make this goal a reality!! Thanks so much for your support..
Love, Ken & Monica

We added the new "Family" and "Guestbook" sections. Please check 'em!
We are hoping soon to be able to adopt a pony whose present owner has developed cancer and is no longer able to take care of him. I am trying to deal with the practical challenges while Ken comes up with a name...so far the best he can do is ¨Tony¨....oh well at least he can still write decent songs!

Feb 2008 - Important message from Ken & Monica
LAND APPEAL:
Hello Everyone,
Here at Esperanza Street we have a fantastic opportunity to acquire 20 thousand square metres of land, close to our home, where we will build shelter homes for the elderly and homeless, an animal shelter, a small school and workshop, a coffee shop and an office that will be staffed by handicapped people…..among other things!!
We need to raise at least 120 thousand Euros to do this and we have a “hold” on the land for 90 days so we are asking for your help to raise the money in the form of donations of any size, shape or form….any amount will be a great help!!
We have the volunteers (although we could always use more!) so we are hoping that you will help us to make this great cause become a reality.
There are different ways that you can make the donations and these are specified here in the web site . You can do it through paypal or by wire transfer and, however you choose to do it, you will always be able to see the results of your love because anyone who helps us with this will be able to come and see it any time. And we’ll be here to welcome you!!
If you have any questions please write to us here and I am hoping that you will be willing and able to help us achieve this important goal.
God bless,
Ken & Monica
